Ep 134: She Was Given a Year to Live. That Was 16 Years Ago. Di Foster on the Moment Everything Shifted.
Season 3 ยท Ep 134
About this episode
You know those people you meet and instantly think, "wow, I like you"?
That's what happened to Candice in March this year, seated next to Di Foster at a conference - cool jacket, big smile, bright eyes, bald head, and absolutely no interest in small talk.
By the end of day one, Candice went home and told her husband, "I've just made a new friend!"
Di has an accounting and commerce degree and started her career in the knitwear and production industry, moving through management roles across a string of companies during a period of major upheaval in the industry - closures, mergers, start-ups, all of it. Fifteen years as a business consultant later, coaching became the natural next step.
And here's the part you'll lean in for: Di has had breast cancer twice. The second time, she was told it was terminal and given a year to live. That was 16.5 years ago.
This episode isn't a cancer story, though - it's a "living a great life" one.
Di helps people get a perspective shift and get on with doing the things that matter, because life's too short to sweat the small stuff.
In this episode, Candice and Di get into:
Di's brutally honest first impression of Candice
The opening to Di's keynote - shared live on the podcast for the first time
The two ways "shift" happens: the big, unmistakable moment, and the quiet, persistent nag you can't quite ignore
What the terminal diagnosis actually felt like, before Di even had words for it
The one-liner comment from a boy at age 12 - that quietly shaped the rest of her life (I LOVE it!!)
Not feeling dyslexic enough, loud enough, funny enough, or just "enough" - and what Di did with that
What to do if you're waiting for your own dramatic "shift moment" that never seems to arrive
Get this episode in your ears and then share with your favourite people x
