Ep 133: How to Switch Off Your 9-5 (So You Can Switch On Your 5-9)

Season 3 · Ep 133

About this episode

Last week I ran a closing keynote for a conference in Brisbane, swung by IKEA on the way home (as you do), and by the time I hit the Sunshine Coast I was so pooped that the thought of deciding what to cook for dinner nearly made me cry.

So I rang my husband and said "meet me at the Thai place in 10 minutes, we're not cooking."

Best decision of my week.

Two cute people, sharing a meal, yawning between sentences - and somehow it still beat sitting at home half-watching TV with my brain still thinking about the emails I'm not on top of.

That night got me thinking about something I hear constantly: I can't switch off, I never feel on top of anything, I'm pooped.

And I want to clear something up before you even hit play - switching off from work isn't because you can't stand your job.

It's about the fact that work is only one part of your life, and if you can't switch off from it, nothing else gets a proper turn.

So, in this episode, I'm sharing 5 genuinely simple ways to actually switch off your 9-5, so you can switch on your 5-9 - no apps, no retreats, no Sunday-night candle ritual required.

I also go on a bit of a tangent (as I do) and share a story from my book about a room full of travel agents who cried when I asked them one simple question.
